Pharmacy Technician - Pharmacy
SUMMARY:
• Pharmacy technicians perform, under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, a variety of technical support functions in a pharmacy. Pharmacy technicians receive, care for, store, distribute, bulk compound, prepackage, prepare sterile solutions, and set up medications for a final check by a pharmacist.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be knowledgeable of specific technical pharmacy techniques and procedures involved in the given work situation. Knowledge of basic arithmetic computation.
• Must be able to organize work when performing bulk compounding, repackaging, and other routine functions. Able to follow oral instructions and read and understand pharmaceutical terminology.
• Must be able to get along well with all hospital and clinic personnel. Able to organize work when performing bulk compounding, repackaging, and other routine functions. Able to follow oral instructions and read and understand pharmaceutical nomenclature.
• Maintain discretion and confidentiality in communications.
• Competent in skills and use of office equipment and electronic medical record systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Medication Preparation: Counting, measuring, mixing, pouring, and labeling medications (sterile and non-sterile).
• Dispensing Support: Processing prescriptions, verifying patient data, and filling automated dispensing machines.
• Customer Service: Greeting patients, answering phone calls, running cash registers, and directing questions to the pharmacist.
• Inventory Control: Tracking inventory, ordering supplies, checking for expired medications, and storing incoming stock.
• Processing insurance claims, maintaining patient profiles, and maintaining the clean organization of the pharmacy
• Knowledgeable about policies and procedures regarding reporting and release of protected health information in accordance with HIPAA.
• Must be knowledgeable of specific technical pharmacy techniques and procedures involved in the given work situation. Knowledge of basic arithmetic computation.
• Fill medication orders, Billing and data entry per patient via physician orders, and eMAR’s, preparing med carts and mixing I.V., floor stock checking, cleaning, ordering, and restocking
• Help with removing (quarantining) out-of-date products and getting what is needed replaced
• Checking stock for expired medications
· Miscellaneous duties as assigned requested or required.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Registered Pharmacy Technician with Texas State Board of Pharmacy
• Maintain Current Registered Pharmacy Technician Certification
LANGUAGE/READING SKILLS:
• Communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing in English.
• Communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing in Spanish.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
• Competent in basic math skills required for patient payment transactions and daily cash in/out counts.
REASONING ABILITY:
• Respond to unusual or varied situations that are not covered by existing standards, procedures and precedents.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• Regularly required to stand, walk and sit.
• Regularly required to reach with hands and arms.
• Regularly required to perform repetitive data entry.
• Regularly required to view computer monitors.
• Frequently be able to lift 25 pounds from the floor to waist level.

Salary depends on experience.
