PRN CNA - Nursing
SUMMARY:
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) / Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) provides direct patient care under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals in accordance with hospital policies and nursing procedures. This role supports patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), assists with vital signs, and maintains patient comfort and safety. The CNA/CMA will collaborate with the healthcare team to deliver safe, effective, and personalized care to patients across various units, including Med Surge, Outpatient, and Emergency.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform assigned tasks and procedures under supervision, including assisting patients with ADLs, taking and recording vital signs, and helping with patient mobility.
• Respond promptly to patient call lights, providing assistance with daily care needs.
• Maintain patient comfort and safety during care activities.
• Ensure all care provided is in accordance with hospital standards and policies.
• Follow correct body mechanics when assisting with patient care tasks.
• Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and assist in ordering necessary items.
• Report any malfunctioning equipment to supervisor promptly for resolution.
• Prioritize tasks to ensure timely completion of patient care assignments.
• Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with patients, visitors, and fellow healthcare team members.
• Demonstrate a professional attitude and provide a high level of customer service.
• Handle stressful situations and heavy workloads with composure.
• Attend in-service training sessions and hospital meetings as scheduled, ensuring continued education in patient care practices.
• Maintain current BLS CPR certification and complete annual hospital in-service training.
• Adhere to hospital policies regarding patient confidentiality, safety, and infection control.
• No direct supervision of staff, but may assist and collaborate with other nursing team members and report any concerns to supervising nurse or CNO.
• Utilize glucometer to collect blood glucose and EKG’s as ordered.
• Perform any other duties as delegated by licensed nursing staff or the Chief Nursing Officer.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• General knowledge of certified nursing practices and procedures, and a willingness to stay updated with changes in the field.
• Attends orientation and in-service training as required by the hospital.
• Ability to work collaboratively with both professional and non-professional staff.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Must possess a current CNA or CMA certification in the state of Texas.
• BLS CPR certification must be maintained at all times and obtained at hire.
LANGUAGE/READING SKILLS:
• Communicate verbally and in writing in English.
REASONING ABILITY:
Responds to unusual or varied situations that not covered by existing standards, procedures and precedents. Ability to work under stressful situations and for extended hours, use of proper body mechanics. Mentally alert at all times. Ability to communicate in written form and verbal communication.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Ensures the comfort and safety of patients as well as staff. Perform administrative as delegated by Chief Nursing Officer. Ability to adapt to all areas of nursing for staffing needs. Work in a hospital setting with the ability to adapt to various clinical areas based on staffing needs. Must ensure the safety and comfort of patients while maintaining a sterile and efficient environment. Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts if needed. Requires standing, walking, lifting, and moving patients as necessary. Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, assist with patient transfers, and lift or move patients as needed. Ability to perform physical tasks in a hospital environment, including operating medical equipment, and handling supplies.
Additional Information Position Type : Pool/PRN/Per Diem Shift : Other Hourly Wage: $23.00 - $23.00 per/hour
